Family Law/Divorce
Our Firm has extensive experience in Family Law matters. Our attorneys are frequently retained, often through referral by lawyers, accountants, and other professionals, in matters such as divorce, child custody, post-decree proceedings, the negotiation and drafting of antenuptial agreements, and as arbitrators of family law disputes.
Examples of some engagements in which Jim Cahn, Chairman of the Family Law/Divorce group, has been involved are:
- Selection by other lawyers as arbitrator to decide divorce case involving $60,000,000 in real estate holdings.
- Service as consultant to an attorney whose divorce client faced difficult issues in the valuation of a minority interest in a closely held family business.
- Won the appeal of a trial court judgment which erroneously found a physician’s employment contract and personal goodwill to have a fair market value divisible upon divorce as marital property.
- Successfully represented clients in divorce cases involving awarded but unvested stock option incentives.
- Resolved numerous divorce cases involving substantial wealth through discreet, principle-based, non-litigation, transaction-oriented processes.
